Monrovia – The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has endorsed Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine, and Dehpue Yenpea Zuo for key leadership positions within the regional body, marking another milestone for Liberia’s representation in West Africa.
The endorsements were announced following the adoption of recommendations from the 96th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers, which considered statutory appointments for the 2026–2030 period. The decision was subsequently ratified by the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.
Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine has been endorsed as a Judge of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice for the 2026–2030 term. She is the daughter of the late Charles Walker Brumskine, a distinguished Liberian jurist and politician who founded the Liberty Party.
In a separate appointment, the Authority also endorsed Hon. Dehpue Yenpea Zuo as Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture of the ECOWAS Commission. His appointment will take effect on September 1, 2026.
The dual endorsements strengthen Liberia’s presence in key ECOWAS institutions and underscore the country’s growing role in regional governance and integration. Mrs. Brumskine’s elevation to the regional court comes at a time when the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice continues to play a critical role in upholding human rights and the rule of law across West Africa.
Cllr. Brumskine, who turned 50 in May, rose to frontline national politics as the vice presidential candidate for the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) coalition during the 2023 presidential election. She serves as managing partner of CMB Law Group, LLC and chairs the Advisory Council of the Liberty Party.
Hon. Zuo currently serves as Deputy Minister for Economic Management at Liberia’s Ministry of Finance and has been a vocal advocate for regional economic integration and the establishment of a single ECOWAS currency.
The appointments reflect the confidence that the West African region has placed in Liberian professionals and signal a renewed commitment to inclusive representation within the community’s institutions.
