NIMBA COUNTY, Liberia โ€” Severe flooding has stranded dozens of travelers along the Ganta-Saclepea road corridor, particularly between Flumpa and Blohn, after heavy seasonal rainfall from Wednesday to Friday overwhelmed a one-way detour route that motorists use. The flooding has reportedly caused significant disruption to traffic movement along the busy road corridor, leaving vehicles and travelers struggling to navigate the affected section.

The situation comes amid ongoing road paving and bridge reconstruction works in the area, which have forced motorists to use a temporary one-way detour while construction continues. Heavy downpours in recent days in Nimba County have caused rainwater to accumulate across the detour route, making passage difficult and, at times, impassable for some vehicles.

Travelers using the Ganta-Saclepea corridor have expressed concerns over the condition of the temporary route, particularly as seasonal rainfall intensifies. The affected road serves as an important transportation link for residents, commercial drivers, traders, and other travelers moving between communities along the Ganta-Saclepea highway.

The flooding has also disrupted commercial activities in nearby communities, with businesses reportedly experiencing reduced movement of customers and goods as travelers face difficulties passing through the area. For some motorists, the flooded road has resulted in delays and uncertainty, while vehicles attempting to pass through the waterlogged route risk becoming stuck or sustaining damage.

Residents and road users are calling for urgent measures to improve drainage and ensure that the temporary passage remains accessible during periods of heavy rainfall. The ongoing road reconstruction and bridge works are expected to improve transportation infrastructure along the corridor once completed.

However, the current flooding has raised concerns about the adequacy of the temporary arrangement during the rainy season. The road corridor is particularly important for the movement of people and goods between Ganta and Saclepea, making uninterrupted access critical to businesses, commuters, traders, and communities along the route.

As the rainy season continues, travelers are urging the authorities and contractors responsible for the project to address the flooding and improve the detour route to prevent further disruption to traffic and commercial activities. The situation remains a concern for road users who depend on the corridor daily, particularly during periods of intense rainfall when the temporary route becomes increasingly difficult to navigate.
