MONROVIA – The George Weah-led government has awarded a 10-year contract to a consortium led by Medtech Scientific Ltd from the United Arab Emirates, to among others provide port screening services at the Free Port of Monrovia, Women Voices newspaper has reliably learned.

Impeachable diplomatic sources confided in Women Voices that the UAE-based firm has also subcontracted the Westminster Group, a security company to provide screening services at Freeport for an initial period of 10 years.

The Medtech Scientific Ltd subcontract with Westminster to provide security screening services at Freeport, for an initial period of 10 years is expected to begin from July 1, 2021.

Women Voices gathered that the contract is expected to generate around US$1.1k in revenue in the first year of operation.

The company will provide port screen services, with revenue generated from all import containers passing through the port. The contract can be extended beyond the first 10 years, Women Voices newspaper is told.

Under the deal with the Liberian government and the Arab company,Medtech Scientific Ltd, Westminster will provide screening systems, warehousing and infrastructure to undertake screening and intrusive search of selected import containers, maintain and operate the systems and provide comprehensive training services to customs and other staff.

The group is expected to deploy in Liberia within 18 months, and Westminster’s presence will be in the country from 1 July and the company will begin manual inspections and screening services later inSeptember this year.

Meanwhile, Westminster has recently also secured a 20 plus years multi-million USD managed services contract for airport security in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The group’s security services contract is for five airports in the DR Congo, which will deliver US$6 million in revenue in the first 12 months.
