The Government of Liberia (GoL) through the Incident Management System (IMS) has debunked reports widely circulating in the country that a lady collapsed and died instantly after be vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

In a statement released late Thursday, the IMS termed as inaccurate media reports linking Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina S. Jallah, to confirmation of the death of a middle-age man as the result of taking the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The IMS, in its Thursday’s statement stressed that it wishes to inform the general public that the incident was instead with a middle-age woman, who rather fainted after taking the jab of the J&J vaccine at the GSA Vaccination Site even though she had earlier taken the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

According to the IMS, the female misinformed vaccinators that she had not taken any COVID-19 vaccine, adding that minutes after the incident, the Case Management team of the IMS responded to the patient and resuscitating her – “The patient has fully recovered,” the IMS statement added.

Meanwhile, the Incident Management System is encouraging the media to facts check with relevant members of the IMS on key issues surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 Response efforts as partners to eliminating the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to the commencement of the COVID-19 vaccination exercise, the Incident Management System says it continues to encourage the general public, especially those who had taken the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to refrain from taking any dose of the J&J vaccine.
