Maryland County Electoral District #1 Representative and Chair on Ways, Means and Finance, Hon. P. Mike Jurry, has expressed strong optimism about Liberia’s economic outlook, emphasizing that increased domestic revenue mobilization remains achievable through strengthened collaboration among key government institutions.
Speaking Monday to legislative reporters following his certification by the Investigative Journalists Network of Liberia, Rep. Jurry reaffirmed the Legislature’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the Liberia Revenue Authority to boost national revenue performance.
“What we do here is for the Liberian people,” Rep. Jurry stated. “Together with the Ministry of Finance and the LRA, we promise our continued support and collaboration because we believe Liberia has greater opportunities. If we work together, we can strengthen our systems and ensure that domestic revenue mobilization reaches its highest potential.”
Reflecting on recent progress, Rep. Jurry noted that Liberia has moved beyond previous benchmarks, recalling that just a few years ago, efforts were focused on reaching one billion dollars in revenue. He highlighted that the country has now surpassed $1.2 billion, even recording a surplus in 2025, which has since been incorporated into the 2026 national budget.
According to him, this achievement demonstrates the growing capacity of Liberia’s revenue system and the benefits of coordinated institutional efforts.
Rep. Jurry further pointed out that the 2026 national budget includes increased allocations to the Liberia Revenue Authority aimed at expanding digital platforms to enhance efficiency and transparency in revenue collection.
“With these investments, I am confident that in the coming years, Liberia will exceed the $1.2 billion mark and potentially reach $1.3 billion or more,” he said.
The Maryland County lawmaker also emphasized the need to identify and address revenue leakages, noting that significant untapped opportunities still exist within the domestic economy.
“If the Legislature and the Executive, particularly the Ministry of Finance, work together to close these leakages and bring all stakeholders to the table, Liberia’s economy will grow stronger,” he added.
Rep. Jurry concluded by underscoring the direct impact of increased revenue on national development, stating that higher revenue generation will enable the government to implement more development projects and improve the living conditions of the Liberian people.
“The more revenue we generate, the more we can deliver for our people. Liberia’s economy is poised for growth, and the future is promising,” he said.
