At the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti paid an official visit to China from May 18 to 22. During her visit, the two foreign ministers held talks. Chen Xiaodong, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Minister Nyanti.
She delivered a speech at the China Foreign Affairs University, visited Shenzhen and met with the Vice Mayor. Minister Nyanti’s visit to China is another important event in the development of bilateral relations since China and Liberia established their strategic partnership in 2024.
This is a visit of friendship. Since 2024, Liberian leaders including President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, and President Pro-Tempore of the Senate, Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, have visited China one after another, forming a positive momentum for high-level exchanges between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Nyanti’s visit to China has continued this sound momentum and consolidated the China-Liberia strategic partnership. During the talks, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that China and Liberia are friends and partners sharing weal and woe. The two sides have fought shoulder to shoulder against major epidemics such as Ebola and COVID-19, and are moving forward hand in hand on the path to modernization.
In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, political mutual trust between the two sides has been continuously enhanced, the friendship between the two peoples has grown ever deeper, and bilateral relations have been elevated to a new height of strategic partnership. Minister Nyanti stated that Liberia and China are strategic partners with shared ideals, and bilateral relations have continued to deepen under the guidance of the two heads of state.
This year marks the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi specifically emphasized that China is ready to work with Liberia to take the opportunity of the Year to strengthen cooperation in culture, youth, sports and human resources development. With a view to nurturing young forces for China-Liberia and China-Africa friendship, the Chinese side invited Minister Nyanti to deliver a speech at the China Foreign Affairs University.
In her speech, Minister Nyanti introduced Liberia’s foreign policy and engaged in active face-to-face interaction with the students, helping Chinese youth better understand Liberia and China-Liberia friendship.
This is a visit of cooperation. Since 2024, both China and Liberia have actively implemented the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the consensus reached between the two heads of state.
The items concerning Liberia under the Ten Partnership Actions of FOCAC have been basically implemented, and practical cooperation between the two countries has achieved commendable results. The China-Aid Project of Emergency Humanitarian Food, Police Supplies and Refurbishment and Expansion Project of Liberia Broadcasting System have been successfully completed. The two China-Aid Overpass Bridges Project on
Tubman Boulevard, Agricultural Machinery Modernization Project, Government Vehicles and Materials Project, Liberia Bamboo and Rattan Weaving, Fruit and Vegetable Planting and Livestock Raising Technical Assistance Project, and the Chinese Medical Team are progressing steadily. During Minister Nyanti’s visit to China, particularly during her talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the two sides once again reviewed and aligned their positions on key matters of China-Liberia practical cooperation.
Wang Yi said that China will, as always, provide assistance to the best of its ability for Liberia’s economic and social development, and is ready to work with Liberia to actively advance cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, agriculture and people’s livelihood. Minister Nyanti said that Liberia is willing to learn from China’s experience in poverty alleviation and development, promoting exchanges and cooperation in trade, agriculture, infrastructure, health care and people-to-people and cultural fields.
CIDCA is the Chinese official agency responsible for foreign aid. During chairman Chen Xiaodong’s meeting with Minister Nyanti, the two sides also exchanged in-depth views on specific development cooperation projects. Shenzhen is a special economic zone in China. It is one of the fastest-growing cities since the China’s reform and opening-up, and a front-runner in China-Liberia sub-national cooperation. It is also home to the headquarters of Huawei. In 2024, President Boakai made a special trip to Shenzhen during his attendance at the FOCAC Beijing Summit. In 2025,
Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong led a delegation to Liberia, where the two sides had in-depth exchanges of views on sub-national cooperation. Last week, Huawei-aided Digital Village Project in Foya, Lofa County was dedicated, with President Boakai personally launching it—adding another highlight to sub-national cooperation between the two countries. Foreign Minister Nyanti’s visit to Shenzhen marks the third significant exchange between Liberia and Shenzhen in three years, a truly commendable track record.
During her visit, Minister Nyanti held talks with the Vice Mayor of Shenzhen and visited relevant enterprises and business associations to further discuss key matters regarding local exchanges and explore cooperation opportunities in fields such as energy, artificial intelligence, and agriculture. As these outcomes are progressively implemented, China-Liberia local cooperation will reach new heights.
This is a visit of success.
Minister Nyanti’s visit to China has further deepened political mutual trust between the two countries, strengthened their coordination on international affairs. Tangible outcomes of bilateral cooperation continue to emerge. The political mutual trust between the two countries has further deepened. During talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Minister Nyanti stated proactively that Liberia firmly adheres to the one-China principle, respects China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
She noted that the one-China principle holds special historic weight as it was codified into law by Liberia’s National Legislature when President Boakai served as President of the Senate. Wang Yi stated that China appreciates Liberia’s adherence to the one-China principle, supports Liberia in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security and exploring a development path suited to its national conditions and traditions, and is ready to continue to firmly support each other with Liberia on issues involving each other’s core interests and major concerns.
The coordination between the two countries on international affairs has become closer. Both China and Liberia are Global South countries and members of the UN Security Council. Safeguarding multilateralism is our shared mission, and protecting the interests of developing countries is our natural stance. During their talks, the two foreign ministers had in-depth exchanges of views on the international situation, UN reform, and regional hot spot issues, sending a strong signal of jointly defending multilateralism and the interests of the Global South, as well as upholding the UN-centered international system.
China highly appreciates Liberia’s active support for the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity and the Global Governance Initiative and other Global Initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping. The current international situation is marked by change and instability, multilateralism has been undercut, and acts of power politics and bullying are rampant.
China and Liberia are both representatives of the Global South in the UN Security Council. China fully supports Liberia in fulfilling its duties as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, and is ready to strengthen multilateral communication and coordination with Liberia, and to work together to reinvigorate and strengthen the UN, uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Global South, and prevent the world from regressing to the era of the jungle where the strong prey on the weak.
Liberia highly commends and firmly supports the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity and the series of Global Initiatives, and is ready to strengthen multilateral coordination with China within the UN framework, jointly uphold international fairness and justice, and work for a world of lasting peace and shared prosperity.
Tangible outcomes of bilateral cooperation are steadily emerging. During Minister Nyanti’s visit to China, good news about bilateral cooperation kept pouring in. First, Liberia’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Mr. Dudley McKinley Thomas signed the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation on behalf of the Government of Liberia in Beijing.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi specifically welcomed Liberia’s signing to become a new member of the IOMed during his talks with Foreign Minister Nyanti. Second, After friendly consultations between the two countries, the Chinese government has agreed to allow the Liberian government to establish a Consulate General in Hong Kong. Third, the Chinese government will provide Liberia with a batch of agricultural machinery and equipment, which will be delivered in the coming months (before the end of the year) to help Libera’s agricultural mechanization.
Fourth, the two countries signed an exchange letter on the approval of China-Aid Government Vehicles and Materials Project. Fifth, the Chinese government will provide 3 million USD from the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund to support the project of “Enhancing Child Nutrition in Liberia for Their First 1000 Days Through Health and Nutrition Services”, which will be implemented by UNICEF. Sixth, China positively considers to provide Liberia with some other assistance. As time goes on, there will be more good news of China-Liberia cooperation; please stay tuned.
Ⅱ.UN Security Council High-Level Meeting
The current international situation is undergoing the most complex and profound changes since WWII. With the purposes of the UN Charter being disregarded and the basic norms of international relations being disrupted, world peace and security are in great jeopardy. As the rotating president of the UN Security Council for May, on May 26, China hosted a high-level meeting on the theme of “Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centered International System” at the UN Headquarters.
Representatives from over 100 countries, including foreign ministers and senior representatives from over 20 countries have participated in the meeting to renew the founding mission of the UN. After lively and in-depth discussions, important common understandings have been reached. Liberia currently serves as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. At the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Liberian Foreign Minister Nyanti is also invited to attend the meeting and gave her remarks.
During the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi put forward five propositions, namely, we must revitalize the UN Charter, the authority of the UN Security Council, the international cooperation on development, the platforms for global governance, and the efficacy of the UN system. It is a strong call for upholding, reinvigorating and strengthening the UN. As such, it demonstrates China’s firm support for multilateralism and is therefore welcomed by various parties.
This year, we celebrate the 55th anniversary of the restoration of the new China’s lawful seat in the UN. Over the past 55 years, as the permanent member of the UN Security Council, China has been actively participating in and advancing the cause of the UN. Amid international turbulence and transformation, China holds its banner high. Amid global development impasse, China empowers and enhances.
Amid major public crises, China races to help. When multilateralism runs into headwinds, China steps up to its responsibility. At the new historical starting point, China will continue doing more things for greater good, championing multilateralism and pursuing greater solidarity with all countries, including Liberia, to build a more just and equitable global governance system and move towards the goal of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Ⅲ.Zero-Tariff Policy
Starting from May 1 this year, China has fully implemented the zero tariff treatment for all 53 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China. China has become the world’s first major economy to unilaterally grant tariff exemption to all African nations with diplomatic ties, as well as to all least developed countries that have diplomatic ties with it. This is an important step taken by China to implement the outcomes of the 2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit and to voluntarily expand unilateral opening up. It will create even greater opportunities for China to expand cooperation with Liberia and other African countries.
As Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during his talks with Minister Nyanti, supporting Africa’s development is China’s unwavering principle and consistent policy. The zero-tariff treatment for all African countries having diplomatic relations with China, personally announced by President Xi Jinping, has been officially implemented, which fully demonstrates China’s commitment to the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in its relations with Africa. Liberia is among the first countries to benefit from this policy.
China stands ready to work with Liberia to make full and good use of the dividends of the zero-tariff policy, continuously upgrade the level of trade facilitation between China and Liberia and between China and Africa, and unleash the great potential of mutually beneficial cooperation. Liberia is one of the earliest beneficiaries of the zero-tariff policy. As early as December 2024, China began implementing zero tariffs on 100% of tariff lines for Liberian products.
During her visit, Minister Nyanti spoke highly of this policy, and noted that Liberia will make most use of it and try to export more products to China. Driven by this policy, according to Chinese customs statistics, Liberia’s exports to China reached 131 million USD in 2025, increasing by approximately 24% year-over-year, with natural rubber accounting for 17.44 million USD—a rise of over 75% year-over-year.
In the first quarter of 2026, Liberia’s exports to China exceeded 200 million USD, a year-on-year increase of more than 30 times. Benefiting from the full resumption of production and operation by Chinese enterprises at the Bong Mine and Bomi Mine in Liberia, iron ore exports to China reached 1.86 million tons in the first quarter, a growth of over 37 times; rubber exports to China reached 7044 tons, an increase of approximately nine times year-on-year.
Currently, Liberia is actively exploring new ways to further expand its exports to China by leveraging the zero-tariff policy. The Liberian Ministry of Agriculture is cooperating with Chinese enterprises to grow chili peppers for export to China. Farmers in five counties have already received chili seeds and begun planting. It is said that 10 tons of dried chili peppers will be exported to China by the end of this year or early next year.
The zero-tariff policy is a significant opportunity to advance China-Liberia relations, especially economic and trade cooperation. We are ready to work with the Liberian side to make full and good use of this opportunity, contributing to the development of bilateral relations and the improvement of the well-being of the Liberian people. We may work together to focus on Liberia’s advantageous products, strengthen the alignment of China’s zero-tariff treatment with Liberia’s development plans in relevant fields, and identify competitive, high-potential, and sustainable export products for Liberia’s expanding exports to China.
We may work together to promote Liberia’s industrial upgrading. China welcomes Liberia’s continuous efforts to optimize its business environment, formulate policies to support agricultural and other exports, and establish a standardized production system. At the same time, the Chinese side hopes our Liberian friends could actively participate in trade and economic activities hosted by China, such as the China International Import Expo, the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, and the Canton Fair.
Based on this, more Chinese investments would be attracted to Liberia to agricultural product processing, manufacturing cooperation. We may work together to overcome the “last mile” challenge. By simplifying customs procedures, promoting electronic documentation and mutual recognition of standards, and expanding “green channels” for agricultural product access, China is striving to facilitate greater opportunities for African countries, including Liberia, to expand export to China. Iron ore, rubber, and dried chili peppers are just the starting point. We believe that with the joint efforts of both sides, more high-quality Liberian products will enter the vast Chinese market in the future, bringing even greater tangible benefits to our two peoples.
Ⅳ.China-U.S. Relationship
From May 13 to 15, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, U.S. President Donald Trump paid a state visit to China. During his visit, President Xi Jinping held welcome ceremony and banquet for President Trump, and held talks with him. They visited the Temple of Heaven and held a private meeting at Zhongnanhai. President Xi Jinping and President Trump had long discussions on major issues concerning China-U.S. relations and world peace and development in a way that was open, thorough, constructive, and strategic.
Both Presidents had agreed on a new vision of a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, and reached important common understandings on keeping economic and trade ties stable, expanding practical cooperation in various fields, properly addressing each other’s concerns, and enhancing communication and coordination on international and regional issues.
The visit helps promote mutual understanding, deepen mutual trust, and advance the well-being of people in both countries. It was a historic meeting, of great significance to China-U.S. relations and global development. President Xi stressed that China is committed to a steady, sound and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations. I have agreed with President Trump on a new vision of building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability.
This will provide strategic guidance for China-U.S. relations over the next three years and beyond, and will be well received by the people of both countries and the international community. “Constructive strategic stability” means positive stability with cooperation as the mainstay, healthy stability with competition within proper limits, constant stability with manageable differences, and lasting stability with expectable peace. Building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability is not a slogan. It means actions in the same direction.
This is an important meeting as China and the United States have both entered a crucial stage in our development. This year marks the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development, and we are advancing Chinese modernization on all fronts through high-quality development. This year is also the 250th anniversary of American independence. In this special year, the two presidents met in Beijing for an extensive discussion on national governance, bilateral relations, and international and regional hot spots. This sent an important message to the world: achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again can go hand in hand, and the two countries can help each other succeed and advance the well-being of the whole world.
This is an important meeting as China-U.S. relations have reached a new starting point. This is the first face-to-face engagement between President Xi and President Trump since their Busan meeting last October, and also the first visit to China by a U.S. president in nine years. It is a continuation and strengthening of the good momentum in the interactions between the two presidents. As transformation not seen in a century accelerates across the globe, the world has once again reached a crossroads. President Xi raised some important questions: Can China and the United States overcome the Thucydides Trap and create a new paradigm of major-country relations? Can we meet global challenges together and provide greater stability for the world? Can we build a bright future together for our bilateral relations in the interest of the well-being of the two peoples and the future of humanity? These questions are vital to history, to the world, and to the people. They are the questions of our times that Chinese and American leaders need to answer together. When the two presidents set the course for the giant ship of China-U.S. relations, they will have a significant and far-reaching impact on the evolving international landscape and the development of human society.
This is an important meeting in which the two presidents’ in-depth discussions have produced fruitful outcomes. The visit included not only official talks and a welcoming banquet, but also private exchanges and a cultural visit. Throughout the nearly nine hours the two presidents spent with each other, they showed mutual respect, a commitment to peace, and a shared interest in pursuing cooperation. The most important political understanding they reached was the agreement to build “a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability.” They also agreed for the two sides to pursue more exchanges on foreign policy, military-to-military relations, economy and trade, public health, agriculture, tourism, people-to-people ties, and law enforcement. This will provide a powerful boost to China-U.S. interactions.
President Xi and President Trump agreed on a new vision of building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, providing strategic guidance for bilateral relations over the next three years and beyond. The new vision they articulated has been well received by the people of both countries and the broader international community. This is how China understands it:
It should be positive stability where cooperation is the mainstay and the relationship gets more resilient through exchange and cooperation. As the world’s top two economies, China and the U.S. share deep ties. Neither can cut the other out, or prosper without the other. We both gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. While a confrontational relationship will be disastrous for both countries and the world, China-U.S. cooperation will get many great things done to the benefit of both and all.
It should be healthy stability where competition is kept within proper limits and is not turned into a zero-sum game. Major-country competition is nothing new, but China-U.S. relations should not be defined by competition. When competition does happen, it must be a healthy one where we learn from each other, pursue excellence together, and compete fairly in compliance with rules. The purpose of competition should be to outdo oneself, so that both sides become better.
It should be constant stability where differences are manageable and the relationship should not be like a roller coaster. Both sides should maintain policy continuity and stability. It is very important for both sides to honor our words and move in the same direction. A positive outlook of China-U.S. cooperation will provide more certainty for both countries’ development and for the international situation.
It should be lasting stability where peace is expectable and conflicts and wars are not acceptable. Peaceful coexistence is the biggest common denominator of China and the U.S..
Conflict and confrontation between us will produce consequences no one can bear. The bottom line is that both sides must abide by the three China-U.S joint communiqués, respect each other’s social systems and development paths, respect each other’s core interests and major concerns, and respect each other’s right to development. In short, building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability is not a slogan. It should be a goal both sides uphold and entail concerted actions.
Now that both presidents have set the direction, both countries should add more substance to this new vision and translate it into concrete policies and measures, so as to write a new chapter in China-U.S. relations. Through this summit, the two presidents reached many agreements in terms of interactions at the leadership and other levels: The two presidents agreed to keep in close touch through meetings, calls, and letters. At the invitation of President Trump, President Xi will pay a state visit to the U.S. this fall. With the authorization of the two presidents, the political and diplomatic channel has stayed active.
The two countries’ foreign policy officials and diplomats have properly handled differences, solved practical problems and increased mutual understanding, contributing to stronger bilateral ties. As instructed by the two presidents, the two economic and trade teams have held multiple consultations, which stabilized the economic and trade ties and market expectations.
The two economic and trade teams produced generally balanced and positive outcomes, including continuing to implement all the consensus reached in prior consultations, establishing a board of trade and a board of investment, addressing each other’s concerns regarding market access for agricultural products, and expanding two-way trade within the framework of reciprocal tariff reduction. These two channels, political and diplomatic and economic and trade, will continue to work to lengthen the list for cooperation and shorten the list of irritants. This summit will reenergize exchanges between the two sides’ legislative bodies, subnational entities and business, academic and media communities.
The two sides have also agreed to support each other in hosting this year’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and G20 Summit. Many U.S. business leaders accompanied President Trump to China on this trip, and he even invited them to the official talks. President Xi spoke to every one of them, encouraged them to strengthen cooperation with China, and stressed that China will open its door still wider. Chinese Premier Li Qiang also met with the U.S. business leaders.
They all said that they have a deep commitment to the Chinese market, and want to grow their business here and strengthen cooperation with Chinese partners. It is clear that China remains a hot destination for American businesses and investors. To sum up, more people-to-people exchanges are both the consensus of the two presidents and the shared desire of the two societies. China will continue to encourage and support such grassroots interactions to cement the foundation for the bilateral relationship, and write a new chapter of friendship.
After the Summit, China’s Ministry of Commerce introduced the preliminary outcomes of China-U.S. economic and trade consultations.
First, the two sides will continue to implement the outcomes of previous consultations and have formed a positive consensus on relevant tariff arrangements.
Second, the two sides agreed to establish a board of trade and a board of investment to discuss their respective concerns in the areas of trade and investment. Through the board of trade, the two sides will discuss issues such as tariff reductions on specific products and have agreed in principle to reduce tariffs on their respective products of concern on an equivalent scale.
Third, the two sides will resolve or make substantive progress toward resolving non-tariff barriers and market access issues involving some agricultural products. The U.S. side will actively work to resolve China’s long-standing concerns regarding the automatic detention of dairy and aquatic products, the export of Penjing plants in growing media to the U.S., and the recognition of Shandong as free of highly pathogenic avian influenza. China, for its part, will actively advance solutions to U.S. concerns regarding beef facility registration and poultry exports from certain U.S. states to China.
Fourth, the two sides agreed to promote two-way trade, including in agricultural products, through arrangements such as mutual tariff reductions for a range of products.
Fifth, the two countries reached arrangements concerning China’s purchase of aircraft from the U.S., as well as U.S. guarantees for the supply of aircraft engines and related parts to China. The two sides agreed to continue advancing cooperation in relevant areas.
The economic and trade teams of the two countries will jointly ensure implementation in line with the consensus reached by the two heads of state, in a bid to inject greater certainty and stability into subsequent China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation and the world economy.
Ⅴ.Taiwan Question
1、
The Taiwan question was also an important topic taken up at the summit. China’s position is very clear:
First, the Taiwan question is China’s internal affair. Realizing complete reunification is an aspiration shared by all sons and daughters of the Chinese nation. It is also the unwavering, historic mission of the CPC. The mainland and Taiwan belong to one and the same China. This is a fact established since antiquity, the real status quo of the Taiwan Strait, and an important part of the postwar international order. We hope that the U.S. side will strictly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and honor its international obligation.
Second, the Taiwan question is the most important issue between China and the U.S., one that affects the entire relationship. If it is handled properly, the overall relationship will be stable, and the two sides will be able to devote more energy to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation. Otherwise, the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, and the entire relationship will be in great jeopardy. China hopes that the U.S. side will take concrete actions to keep the relationship on an even keel and contribute to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Third, China and the U.S. both agree on the vital importance of safeguarding cross-Strait peace and stability. To ensure this is the case, one must never indulge or support “Taiwan independence”, because “Taiwan independence” and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water. Our impression coming out of the summit is that the U.S. side understands China’s position, takes China’s concerns seriously, and, like the rest of the international community, does not agree with or accept Taiwan’s moving toward independence.
After the summit, President Trump also said in an interview with U.S. media on May 15th, “I’m not looking to have somebody (Taiwan) go independent.”
2、
In addition to articulating China’s position on the Taiwan question during the summit, over the past two months, China has taken a series of major actions regarding the Taiwan question both in cross-strait relations and at the international level, sending a strong message to uphold the one-China Principle and oppose “Taiwan independence”. These actions have dealt a heavy blow to the Lai Ching-te’s “Taiwan independence” forces.
1)Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on April 10th met with Cheng Li-wun, chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party, in Beijing. General Secretary Xi delivered an important speech, charting the course for the development of relations between the two political parties and cross-Strait relationship. In his speech, he put forward four opinions on the development of across-Strait relationship.
First, forging closer bonds across the Strait by upholding a correct understanding of identity. Compatriots on both sides of the Strait share the same roots, the same culture, and close blood ties, forming a community with a shared future bound by common prosperity and adversity. Second, safeguarding the shared homeland through peaceful development. The mainland and Taiwan both belong to one China, and China is the common home of the Chinese nation. For compatriots on both sides of the Strait to safeguard and build this common home, the fundamental approach is to uphold the 1992 Consensus and oppose “Taiwan independence”.
The core issue for safeguarding the shared homeland lies in recognizing that both sides of the Strait belong to one China. Third, fostering the well-being of the people through exchanges and integration. We will continue to uphold the concept that people on both sides of the Strait are one family, and actively take concrete actions to benefit, support, and address the difficulties of both compatriots in Taiwan. Fourth, making joint efforts to achieve national rejuvenation.
We firmly believe that more and more Taiwan compatriots will gain a correct understanding of the mainland’s social system and development path. They will recognize that Taiwan’s development prospects hinge on a strong motherland, and that the interests and well-being of Taiwan compatriots are closely linked to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
On April 12th, the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee rolled out a package of 10 policies and measures aimed at boosting exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan to advance the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and enhance the kinship and well-being of compatriots across the Strait.
2)On May 18th, the General Committee and the Plenary Session of the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA) respectively decided to reject the so-called proposal of “inviting Taiwan to participate in the WHA as an observer”submitted by certain countries. This has been the 10th year in a row that the WHA has rejected the so-called proposal concerning Taiwan.
China’s position on the Taiwan region’s participation in the activities of international organizations, including WHO, is consistent and clear. That is, it must be handled in line with the one-China principle, which is also a fundamental principle as demonstrated by the UNGA Resolution 2758 and WHA Resolution 25.1.
China’s Taiwan region, unless given approval by the central government, has no basis, reason or right to participate in the WHA. Due to the DPP authorities’ in Taiwan persistent separatist stance, the political foundation for the Taiwan region to participate in the WHA no longer exists. The DPP authorities and certain countries have been blatantly turning back the wheel of history by deliberately distorting and challenging UNGA Resolution 2758 to challenge the one-China principle. They are essentially trying to challenge not only China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also international justice and prevailing consensus.
China’s decision of not approving the Taiwan region’s participation in this year’s WHA has wide support and understanding from the international community. The overwhelming majority of countries in the international community have reaffirmed to the Chinese side that they uphold UNGA Resolution 2758, firmly support the one-China principle, and oppose Taiwan’s participation in the WHA.
They expressed their support for China’s position through various means, such as writing to the WHO Director-General. It shows that commitment to the one-China principle is where global opinion trends and the arc of history bends, and what the greater national interests entail. The international community’s commitment to the one-China principle is not to be challenged or shaken. No matter what the DPP authorities say or do, it does not change the fact that the two sides of the Strait belong to one and the same China and Taiwan is part of China, nor can it stop the trend towards China’s ultimate and inevitable reunification.
“Taiwan independence” leads nowhere and provocations for that are doomed to failure.
3) On May 20th, China’s Foreign Ministry and the Taiwan Affairs Office of China’s State Council issued solemn statements regarding the content on cross-strait relations in Lai Ching-te’s “May 20” speech and his responses to reporters’ questions. There is but one China in the world. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. The Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The two sides of the Strait belong to one and the same China, and this is the real status quo across the Taiwan Strait. “Taiwan independence” and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water.
“Taiwan
independence” separatist forces constitute the biggest destroyer of the status quo across the Strait and the biggest source of disruption to peace and stability in the region. To safeguard peace and stability across the Strait, one must firmly follow the one-China principle and stand against “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. Leaders and political figures from the overwhelming majority of countries in the international community have reaffirmed their commitment to the one-China principle through various ways. Facts show that opposing “Taiwan independence” separatism and supporting China’s reunification is where the arc of history bends and public opinion trends.
4) On May 1st, an earthquake struck Yilan County, Taiwan, causing an emergency situation with houses collapsing and people being trapped. Just hours within the Yilan earthquake, Lai Ching-te ditched the people in Taiwan who were still reeling from the disaster and sneaked onto a foreign plane to “smuggle” himself out of the island, squandering taxpayers’ money and performing a laughable stunt in front of the world.
That just added yet another episode to the scandalous “Taiwan independence” separatism. Lai used the “private plane” of the King of Eswatini for his visit, falsified information in the aviation application materials, concealed the details of the people on board, and fraudulently obtained flight permits from relevant countries. Such disgraceful tricks are despised by the international community.
In the “smuggling” farce, Lai used the King of Eswatini’s “private plane” for round trips—it could never have been a “free lunch”, and the bill will ultimately be borne by the people in Taiwan.
He squandered taxpayers’ money, promised substantial cash handouts to the Eswatini royal family, and accepted their demands for billions of new Taiwan dollars in annual donations and full coverage of all costs for the “private plane”. Based on past practices, the vast majority of this hard-earned money from the people in Taiwan has ended up in the pockets of the Eswatini royal family for their squandering, doing nothing to improve the living standards of ordinary Eswatini citizens.
Eswatini’s alignment with “Taiwan Independence” separatist forces has caused it to miss the invaluable opportunity of boarding the express train of China’s development. In 2025, the total bilateral trade volume between China and 53 African countries with diplomatic ties reached a record high of 348.08 billion USD. In the first quarter of this year, the trade volume stood at 92.16 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 26.8%. In contrast, the so-called “bilateral” trade volume between Taiwan and Eswatini in 2025 was only about 6.47 million USD.
On May 1st this year, China fully implemented zero-tariff treatment for all 53 African countries with diplomatic relations. Against the backdrop of continuing growth in China-Africa trade, this will further benefit African countries that have established diplomatic ties with China. Only the people of Eswatini, because of the illusory “friendship” between Eswatini and Taiwan, are unable to share in the dividends of China’s rapid development.
The undignified act of Lai Ching-te and his like once again proves that the one-China principle has long been a basic norm in international relations and prevailing international consensus. No matter how the DPP authorities collude with external forces and keep those people in DPP’s pay, it will always be a losing cause and nothing will ever change the fact that Taiwan is part of China. No matter how “Taiwan independence” forces try to cover up their nature or change appearance, nothing can save their reputation or help them escape the denunciation of the international community.
3、At the 2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit, 53 African countries, including Liberia, and the African Union (AU) endorsed the adoption of the Beijing Declaration on Jointly Building an All-Weather China-Africa Community with a Shared Future for the New Era.
The African side reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the one-China principle, reiterated that there is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and they firmly support all efforts by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification. Among countries that have established diplomatic ties with China, Liberia is the first one to domesticate the one-China principle in the form of legislation. Since the election of President Boakai and his assumption of office, the Liberian side has repeatedly reaffirmed its adherence to the one-China principle.
On May 19th, during talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Foreign Minister Nyanti stated that Liberia firmly adheres to the one-China policy, respects China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and has confirmed this through domestic legislation. During the 79th session of the WHA, the Liberian government delegation, led by Minister of Health Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, firmly supported China and rejected the so-called proposal on Taiwan. Recently,
The House of Representatives of Liberia reaffirms its commitment to the one-China principle and UNGA Resolution 2758. On May 23, at the Launch Ceremony of the Huawei-aided Digital Village Project in Foya, Lofa, President Boakai expressed gratitude to China for its longstanding, valuable support to Liberia’s economic and social development, and reaffirmed Liberian government’s commitment to the one-China policy.
Liberia-China Friendship Organization and Liberia China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification have also made active voices in support of the one-China Principle and in opposition to the “Taiwan independence” actions of the Lai Ching-te administration. These voices have gathered into a mighty momentum, fully proving that the one-China principle is not only Liberia’s domestic law but also a universal consensus of the entire society, unbreakable and indestructible.
