Monrovia, The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) has begun implementing a new Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Solid Waste Management Framework designed to transform waste collection and disposal throughout Monrovia and surrounding areas.
Monrovia City Mayor John Charuk-Siafa announced that the first phase of the PPP involves deploying 30 Community-Based Enterprises and Small and Medium Enterprises across 12 operational zones. These zones cover Montserrado County Districts 7, 8, 9, and 16, providing scheduled door-to-door waste collection services.
Mayor Charuk-Siafa emphasized that all households, businesses, schools, markets, and institutions within the pilot communities are now required to subscribe to their designated waste collection operators. He underscored that the success of this new sanitation system depends on full public compliance and participation.
During a press conference on Monday, Mayor Charuk-Siafa issued a stern warning against illegal dumping and sanitation violations.
He also reminded the public that participation in the mandatory citywide cleanup exercise, held on the first Saturday of every month, remains compulsory. The initiative seeks to replace periodic cleanups with a sustainable, long-term waste management system.
Mayor Charuk-Siafa further highlighted progress in ongoing cleanup operations, noting the complete removal of accumulated waste along Center Street and other key areas.
The MCC’s reform is expected to significantly enhance the cleanliness and environmental health of Monrovia, setting a new standard for waste management in the city.
