-To 180 Disabled, Orphanages, and Elderly Communities In Montserrado
MONROVIA: With just a few days left, for the celebration of Liberia’s July 26 Independence Day, the National Lottery Authority has launched its July 26 package donation to the 180 disabled communities, orphanages, public welfare, and the elderly in Montserrado County.
The National Lottery Authority is an autonomous agency responsible for contributing to the national purse, contributing to institutions serving the disabled and the elderly as well as their causes, through regulation of the gaming sector, and the management of the national lottery games. In these pursuits, the NLA collaborates with all stakeholders including international gaming organizations and it is currently a member of the African Lottery Association (ALA), and also a member of the World Lottery Association (WLA).
Speaking at the launch of the food distribution, the Director General of the National Lottery Authority, Peter Solo said , the donation is a reflection of the institution’s commitment to its social corporate responsibility. Solo emphasized that the National Lottery Authority is not only generating revenue but also making a positive impact on the lives of people living with disabilities.
Launching the disabled community July 26 Independence Day package at the NLA Headquarters in Monrovia on Tuesday July 14, 2026, Solo declared the day as a true reflection of the July 26 Independence Day celebration which is a value of compassion and generosity.
He noted that this initiative is in fulfillment of President Joseph Boakai’s agenda for inclusive development and the slogan ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) reflects Liberia’s commitment to achieving sustainable and inclusive growth and development.
“The donated items include rice, oil, chicken soup among others According to him, the National Lottery Authority is mandated by law to donate a portion of its revenue to charitable causes, including the disabled community.
“This requirement is enshrined in the Authority’s statutes and is aimed at ensuring that the institution is giving back to the community and supporting vulnerable groups in Liberian society” he said.
The NLA boss used the occasion to announce a tuition support disable students enrolled at community Colleges and state-run universities in the country.
He added that, Education is the greatest equalizer and that no person should be denied the opportunity to learn, grow, or lack financial barriers indicating that they at the National Lottery Authority operates under one simple principle that national development must include everyone. “To our 180 partners organizations we encourage your transparency and accountability in the distribution of those items so that they reach the intended beneficiaries’ he said.
For his part, the Executive Director of the National Union of Organizations of the Disabled, Rev. Peter Flomo, thanked the National Lottery Authority for its donation to the disabled community. Flomo emphasized that while the Christmas packages are appreciated, the disabled community needs more than just seasonal handouts.
He urged the Authority to find ways to empower union members with jobs, as many of them are skilled and capable of working. He said by providing job opportunities, the Authority can help address the root causes of poverty and disability rather than just treating the symptoms. ‘This approach can lead to a more sustainable and equitable solution for the disabled community ‘Lomo said.
Flomo reaffirmed the union’s commitment to working with the Authority to ensure that the disabled community benefits from its programs and initiatives. He expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue and explore ways to empower the disabled community.
