MONROVIA, Liberia — Representative Moima Dabah Briggs Mensah of Salala Electoral District #6, Bong County, has joined a Liberian delegation in New Delhi, India, for a South-South Peer Learning Mission focused on strengthening women’s political participation and gender-responsive legislation.
The mission, scheduled for August 10–16, 2026, brings together Liberian lawmakers and Indian parliamentary stakeholders to exchange experiences and explore legislative strategies that could help advance women’s representation and leadership.
Rep. Briggs Mensah serves as Chairperson of the House Committee on Gender Equity, Child’s Development and Social Services and is also a member of the Women’s Legislative Caucus of Liberia (WLCL).
During the mission, participants are expected to discuss issues including women’s political participation, parliamentary representation, gender-responsive legislation, economic empowerment, prevention of gender-based violence, and policies aimed at protecting the rights of women and girls.
The engagement is being undertaken in partnership with UN Women Liberia and supported by the IBSA Fund through the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).
The peer-learning initiative provides Liberian legislators an opportunity to examine experiences from India’s parliamentary system and identify approaches that could be adapted to Liberia’s legislative and governance environment.
Rep. Briggs Mensah’s participation also highlights the role of women lawmakers in shaping policies and legislation that promote gender equality and inclusive governance.
The mission is expected to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between Liberia and India while providing participants with practical lessons on advancing women’s leadership and participation in decision-making.
