SALALA, Bong County – Representative Moima D. Briggs Mensah of Electoral District #6, Bong County, has donated 199 locally made wooden armchairs to public schools in the district to address classroom seating shortages and improve learning conditions.
The distribution, which commenced this week, is part of the lawmaker’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the education sector and provide a more conducive environment for students.
Among the beneficiary schools are New Totota Public School, Kolliemelling Toto Public School, Quilmini Toto Public School, and Saysay-La Public School.
New Totota Public School received 120 armchairs, while Kolliemelling Toto received over 75, as the exercise targets schools grappling with inadequate seating.
Speaking during the exercise, Representative Briggs Mensah emphasized that education remains key to transforming families and addressing Liberia’s longstanding challenges.
She said students cannot be expected to excel when forced to learn in uncomfortable and poorly equipped classrooms.
“The future of this district lies in the classroom, and we cannot expect excellence from our children if we do not give them a decent place to sit and learn,” she stated.
Representative Briggs Mensah, who has represented District #6 since 2018, reaffirmed her commitment to supporting students and improving educational opportunities across the district.
Meanwhile, David Boakai, Chief Executive Officer of the Bong County School System, welcomed the donation, describing it as a meaningful intervention in addressing the shortage of classroom furniture.
Boakai urged school administrators to properly maintain the chairs and ensure they are used for their intended purpose.
Also speaking, the District Education Officer of the Salala School System, Mr. Belekoyah, called on teachers to be regular and punctual.
He emphasized that teachers’ dedication is critical to improving the quality of education and ensuring students receive the instruction they deserve.
The distribution exercise is expected to continue as the lawmaker and her team visit other schools identified for assistance across the district.
