The House of Representatives has referred a draft bill to establish the Bong Mines Vocational Training Institute (BMVTI) to its Committees on Education and Public Administration, Judiciary, and Ways, Means and Finance, giving them two weeks to review and report back.

The proposed legislation, titled “An Act to Establish the Bong Mines Vocational Training Institute (BMVTI) as a Semi-Autonomous Public Institution for Technical and Vocational Education,” was submitted by Bong County Electoral District #7 Representative Foday Edward Fahnbulleh.

Fahnbulleh argued that the institute would fill a critical skills gap by offering practical technical training to young people, Bong County residents, and the broader public—directly supporting the government’s push for mass education and a competitive workforce.

He stressed that the BMVTI would specialize in disciplines designed to boost economic self-reliance, strengthen regional development, and curb youth unemployment through hands-on, market-ready skills training.

Following brief deliberations, Plenary formally received the bill and ordered the three joint committees to conduct a thorough review and return with recommendations within 14 days for further legislative action.
