Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia through NPHIL and the Ministry of Health, has issued a nationwide travel advisory aimed at strengthening the country’s preparedness against the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) following reported outbreaks in parts of Africa, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

The advisory, which took immediate effect on May 25, 2026, was jointly issued by the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL).

Under the new measures, all travelers arriving from or transiting through Ebola-affected countries will be required to complete a Traveler Surveillance Form either onboard or upon arrival in Liberia.

Health authorities also announced that mandatory screening procedures, including temperature checks, will be conducted at all airports, seaports, and ground crossings across the country.

According to the advisory, any traveler showing signs or symptoms associated with Ebola or any other infectious disease will be managed in line with Liberia’s national point-of-entry health standards.

The government further disclosed that travelers will receive health information encouraging them to self-monitor and immediately report any symptoms of Ebola to the nearest health facility or through the toll-free emergency numbers 4455 and 5555.

Transport operators and travelers have also been urged to strictly observe infection prevention and control measures, including regular handwashing, use of sanitizers, and avoiding unnecessary physical contact.

Authorities warned that any vehicle, vessel, or aircraft suspected of transporting infected persons, cargo, or human remains linked to Ebola or other infectious diseases will be disinfected at designated points of entry.

Meanwhile, Liberian citizens and residents have been strongly advised to avoid non-essential travel to countries currently affected by Ebola outbreaks.

Despite the increased alert measures, the Government of Liberia assured the public that there are currently no confirmed Ebola cases in the country.

Officials noted, however, that surveillance and national preparedness activities have been intensified to protect public health and prevent possible importation of the disease.

The travel advisory will be reviewed periodically depending on the evolving health situation in the region.

The statement was signed by the Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia and approved by the Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto.
